Procedure for the assessment of LASER Systems

The LASER system falls into class 3R, but it incorporates an embedded higher class LASER.

Verify that the following protection measures have been implemented:

• presence of protective guards to prevent human access to class 3R LASER radiation, connected to the interlock system;
• presence of further protective guards to prevent human access to the higher class LASER radiation, connected to the interlock system;
• availability of personal eye-protection equipment (only if required by the Document on risk assessment);
• presence of labels, indicating class and type of emitted radiation, on the LASER and on the manual; 
• written procedures covering the correct use;
• written procedures covering the alignment;
• training and information for the operators working on the device;
• training of all workers on specific LASER risks.

Result of the check:

• All conditions are met
• One or more conditions are not met
